The Power of the Blog!

Deb’s Gardens was my first serious attempt at blogging and it still stands as a reminder to me of the power of blogging.   I started the blog in March, 2008 and posted (not daily, like the current Postaday2011 challenge) but on a regular basis for a year until March, 2009.   There is one additional post announcing my Garlic Giveaway which directs them to this blog to enter.   I used Deb’s Garden as a tool to direct traffic here.   The reason I left the blog intact is because of the work and information I put into that blog and it still boggles my mind when I see the hits it receives even after I stopped posting to it.   Some days (most days so far) it still receives more viewers than my current blog!   During that year of writing I found myself intrigued with taking good pictures to demonstrate what I was experiencing in the garden and beyond.   I felt the photos could help me explain and they certainly caught the attention of many folks.   I was invited to guest blog for a popular country magazine and all was well except for my traveling between homes.   This became an issue for me since there was no internet and I felt I couldn’t commit on a regular basis during the summer months.   They still show my blog among the many others they have since invited to blog for them.

Gardening was my main focus for the blog, but I also followed a family of Baby Swans and to date this post along with the photos receives by far the most views.   A woman asked for my permission to use these photos in a book she was creating …… I said “Sure”!   Not only do I find Swans to be such a beautiful creature, I was contemplating getting a pair for our lake down south.   After listening to comments from readers, I decided against this.   The interaction on the blog with readers helped me make a major decision.

So it became obvious to me that what we write and post on the internet is important.   We can share our own knowledge and write in our own genuine style and there will be others who find us interesting.   We all have something to share … even if it’s the simple act of taking pictures of birds.   Our daily lives and moments are something we should all be proud to share with the world…… our diary of life.   If we choose not to share, those moments will be lost and no one will know the beauty we have witnessed.  

I often wonder how many lives these Swan photos have touched and I can only hope that the beauty I was able to capture will encourage others to find and share the beauty in their own worlds.
